Я смотрю на SplashDemo.java из руководств Java Sun. Класс иллюстрирует, как создавать заставки при запуске приложения. SplashDemo создает фрейм непосредственно в методе main. В этом примере, почему нормально не запускать код GUI, выполняемый в потоке отправки событий с помощью invokeLater ?

Я всегда слышал, что компоненты Swing должны создаваться и обновляться в EDT. Этот источник использует исключительно классы AWT.

Пока ни один из компонентов не был реализован, изменять объекты Swing безопасно. Таким образом, даже если это был Swing-код, все равно безопасно создавать объекты Swing в основном потоке.

Реализованный означает, что может быть вызван метод paint объекта.
